Information for postgraduates
I welcome postgraduates from the UK and elswhere to join my group of postgraduates studying the general topic of therapeutic rituals. Unfortunately we do not have independent funding, but funding can be applied for in the normal ways.
Prospective postgraduates will find it is useful to know what we do and don’t do.
What we do:
We investigate the MECHANISMS underlying therapy, and we start from the assumption that (a) multiple mechanisms can occur in any instance and (b) the mechanisms do not respect the intentions of therapists. Our research includes psychotherapy, therapist effects, placebo and complementary and alternative medicine. We look for open minded people who are guided by findings rather than prior assumptions.
What we don’t do
We don’t conduct research supporting a particular therapy in comparison with others. We don’t try to show that one therapy is better than another. If you are a therapist wants to carry out research to show that you therapy is a good form of therapy, this is not the research group for you – there are others who do this kind of work.
What to do if you interested.
